Becoming a doctor is an ambitious goal that involves dedication, hard work, and ongoing education. In Canada, medical school is highly competitive and requires a great deal of preparation. If you are considering becoming a doctor, this guide will provide you with an overview of the steps required to achieve your dream.

Step 1 – Obtaining an Undergraduate Degree

The first step towards becoming a doctor is obtaining an undergraduate degree from an accredited Canadian university. Depending on the school you attend and the program you choose, this will usually take three to four years to complete. It’s important to select courses that will prepare you for the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT) which you will need to take in order to apply for medical school. While many students choose traditional sciences such as biology or chemistry for their undergraduate studies, some universities also offer pre-medical programs which provide coursework specifically tailored for individuals planning on applying for medical school.

Step 2 – The MCAT Exam

Once you’ve completed your undergraduate degree and have gathered the necessary experience and volunteer hours needed for admission into medical school (which varies depending on the institution), it’s time to take the Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT). This exam assesses your knowledge in areas such as physical sciences, biological sciences, verbal reasoning, writing skills and problem solving ability – all of which are important skills required by doctors. You can register online at least 4 weeks before your desired test date, so be sure to plan ahead!

Step 3 – Applying To Medical School

After passing the MCAT exam with satisfactory results, it’s time to apply to medical schools across Canada! The application process typically includes submitting transcripts from previous educational institutions along with essays outlining why you’re interested in becoming a doctor; letters of recommendation; and interviews at select schools. Be sure to do plenty of research on each program before submitting your application so that you can make an informed decision when selecting where you would like to study medicine.   Once accepted into medical school after completing all prerequisite requirements, your journey towards becoming a doctor begins! From here, it typically takes four more years of studying before graduating with an MD degree and beginning residency training before eventually receiving certification as a practicing physician or specialist in Canada.

How to becoming a doctor in Canada is no easy feat! It requires dedication and focus from start to finish – but if that doesn’t scare you off then there’s no reason why pursuing medicine shouldn’t be included on your list of potential career paths. Start by obtaining an undergraduate degree from an accredited university followed by taking the MCAT exam and applying for medical schools across Canada – then get ready for four more years filled with dedicated studies until eventually achieving certification as either a specialist or general practitioner! Good luck!
